The Children of Christmas Past, a local, grassroots organization, has passionately taken it upon themselves to be a strong voice with a loving, helping hand for seniors who are alone.
The organization was started in 1999 by Jill Harrington. She requested that the guests of their Annual Christmas Open House bring a gift for a senior, rather than a hostess gift. Now, the registered not-for-profit charity hand delivers over 3,000 gifts on Christmas morning. I see the Christmas spirit come alive with hundreds of donors purchasing, volunteering, wrapping and sorting the gifts.
The success of the Children of Christmas Past is through this process. The experience of coming into our home and being involved in the process is as rewarding for them as it is for the seniors.
